VYP INTERNSHIPS
Development Internships

As a Veterans Yoga Project (VYP) Intern, college or graduate students will learn many aspects of nonprofit organizational operations, such as program design, strategic planning, and more, with an emphasis on fundraising and creating sustainability in organizational revenue development.

Interns will be a part of the Development team which educates prospective donors (individual, foundation, donor-advised funds, and corporate sponsors) about the important work being done by the Veterans Yoga Project. They will also have the opportunity to engage with VYP staff and key volunteers across the country. The small staff size will offer an opportunity to see, experience, engage, and complete important revenue development initiatives critical to the success of the work.

Veterans Yoga Project is on a mission to support recovery and resilience among our veterans, active duty military members, their families, and communities. Our veterans and military families are our communities’ best assets. VYP envisions a future where all veterans, active duty, their families, and communities have access to a full range of mind-body practices that support their efforts to be leaders in their own lives, in their own families, and in their own communities. VYP intends to increase our programs to reach more veterans, more diverse veterans, more veterans in rural areas, justice-involved veterans, and active duty military.

Because this is work may be done remotely for the most part, interns will have a great deal of flexibility in scheduling. The Director of Development will offer direction, answer questions, and work with them without micromanaging the completion of tasks as long as high-quality work product is done on time as requested. The Director of Development works from St. Paul, Minnesota, so she will be able to meet in person with interns, as may be allowed in accordance with CDC guidance and local COVID protocols.

As such, Veterans Yoga Project is seeking no more than three qualified interns to work within and contribute to our Development team. The position will be part-time and is unpaid. Academic credit can be arranged in accordance with college or university requirements. The internship spans a range of responsibilities in the Development department, including managing and cultivating relationships with donors, maintaining records, contributing to research projects, and team on specific fundraising efforts including online events, crowdfunding, and peer-to-peer campaigns.

College or graduate students with emphasis in their studies on Business, Business Administration, Finance, Economics, English, Communications, Public Relations, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Public and/or Nonprofit Administration are encouraged to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities May Include:

  • Assist in development of volunteer fundraisers program
  • Assist in general donor stewardship
  • Communicate with current and prospective donors
  • Help maintain and update donor databases
  • Assist staff in organizing day-to-day communications with individual, foundation, and company donors
  • Assist Development staff in drafting fundraising emails
  • Assist Development staff in online event planning and coordination
  • Research projects, prospects, and initiatives for the Development team
  • Draft profiles of prospective donors for Development team
  • Perform general administrative duties to assist Development team, to include data entry

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong research skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience with research a plus
  • Experience working with databases a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Discretion when dealing with sensitive issues and information
  • An understanding of Veterans Yoga Project’s work and interest in its mission
  • Veteran or a strong connection to the US Military is a plus but not required

Requirements

  • A reliable laptop and cell phone are needed and will not be provided
  • Good spoken and written English and composition skills
  • Calls and events are sometimes held on weekends and in the evening, and interns should be available to attend remotely and help when necessary

Commitment:
Part-time: 20 hours per week for 8-10 weeks TBD

Marketing & PR Internships

Do you love data? Are you curious about the strategy behind data capture? Do you have some web development, marketing, or PR experience but are more interested in a cross-organizational role?

If so, we would love to connect with you! 

As a Veterans Yoga Project (VYP) intern, college or graduate students will learn many aspects of nonprofit organizational operations, such as program design, strategic planning, and more, with an emphasis on marketing and PR campaigns, UX, and data capture and implementation within a nonprofit organization.  

Interns will work under the Chief Customer Officer, whose department spans the organizational areas of customer insights, personalized marketing, customer decisioning, and public relations. They will assist in the transformation of VYP towards a people-first organization and optimize the cross-organizational UX of volunteers, employees, donors, customers, and the public, to unite users through meaningful connections. Interns will also have the opportunity to engage with VYP staff and key volunteers across the country. The small staff size will offer an opportunity to see, experience, engage, and complete important marketing and PR initiatives critical to the success of the work.

Our team shines as individuals and excels when working together as part of a collaborative force. Our interns come from various backgrounds, with and without media experience. They bring qualities such as intellectual curiosity, problem-solving skills, determination, and a passion for numbers, branding, and design.

Because this work may be done remotely for the most part, interns will have a great deal of flexibility in scheduling. The Chief Customer Officer works from Augusta GA, Nashville TN, and London UK. She will be able to meet in person with interns in these locations, as may be allowed in accordance with CDC guidance and local COVID protocols.

As such, Veterans Yoga Project is seeking no more than three qualified interns to work within and contribute to our Marketing, PR, and UX team. The position will be part-time and is unpaid. Academic credit can be arranged in accordance with college or university requirements. 

Duties and Responsibilities May Include:

  • SEO / SEM
  • Social media management and growth 
  • YouTube management and optimization
  • Content marketing, content creation, and design
  • Customer journey, UX, cross-channel attribution and touchpoint marketing
  • Data analytics and organization  
  • Cross platform tagging implementation and software integration
  • Strategy around developing different marketing and ad solutions and integrations VYP can leverage
  • Assist staff in organizing day-to-day communications with internal employees, volunteers, media outlets, and other contacts
  • Expand and maintain marketing channels
  • Update media lists and databases
  • Writing and distributing press releases
  • Assist in drafting emails, creating email funnels, and tagging/segmentation
  • Assist in online event planning and coordination
  • Research projects, prospects, competitors, and initiatives
  • Perform general administrative duties to assist Marketing and PR teams

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strategic thinker with technical foundation
  • Experience working with databases, CRMs, social media platforms and martech solutions
  • Experience with Google Analytics a plus
  • Strong design skills a plus
  • Some HTML, CSS, WordPress experience a plus
  • A general curiosity and interest in marketing, data strategy, and ad/marketing technology is a must
  • An understanding of Veterans Yoga Project’s work and interest in its mission

Requirements
