Perry began practicing yoga in 2003. He is now a Yoga Therapist certified by the International Association of Yoga Therapists, and a Yoga Alliance 500-hour Registered Yoga Teacher. He completed his Veterans Yoga Project Mindful Resilience Training (MRT) in 2014 and his VYP Advanced MRT in 2017. Since 2015, he has continued to teach mindfulness-based classes to veterans on behalf of VYP. Perry also teaches public yoga classes including, yoga for back health, yoga for Parkinson’s, yoga for cancer treatment and recovery, and yoga for seniors.
Perry received his degree in Biology from San Francisco State University. He continues to educate himself in yoga practices such as adaptive yoga, yoga for trauma, and yoga for persistent pain, and is a lead facilitator in the VYP Mindful Resilience for Compassion Fatigue program. In addition to his yoga life, Perry spent 35 years in business management, bringing experience in finance, sales and marketing, human resources, and customer service to VYP’s board.
Perry’s father was a WWII Navy Veteran who worked the majority of his career with the Department of the Navy and industries developing solutions for the Department of Defense. After serving in the Navy, his father developed flight guidance systems and landing gear for carrier-based aircraft and was part of the Polaris submarine development team. Perry grew up surrounded by his father’s involvement with the military. Through Veterans Yoga Project, in honor of his father’s service and honoring all veterans, Perry is proud to now serve those who have served.
