Lara Covey completed the Veterans Yoga Project Mindful Resilience and Compassion Fatigue training as a first step to bringing her passion for yoga to fellow Veterans. Lara found yoga after 20 plus years in dance, specifically ballet, and was immediately hooked. She completed her 200-hour yoga certification in 2013 with Yoga Worldreach Seva School and a year later, started teaching Stand-up-Paddleboard Yoga for SUP101Lakes, which she continues to do still today. In addition, Lara started a Mindful Yoga Club at both the middle and high school where she currently teaches English as a Second Language full-time to grades 6-12. She has been teaching in Angola, IN, now for 9 years, but will be leaving after this year. In addition, she taught for another 12 years for both private and public schools in the state of California.

Lara holds a Master’s degree in Education TESOL, a Bachelor’s Degree in International Studies, and a Teaching Credential in General Ed K-8, Social Sciences 6-8, and EL K-12. She is E-RYT 300, MRT, CFT, Qigong, Barre,  and SUPyoga certified.

Yoga and mindfulness not only helped physically condition Lara from ballet, but mentally from teaching and through her own trauma experienced serving in the US Navy. Lara is a Veteran who will be pursuing a new career in medical coding in order to work virtually in order to help other Veterans, as well as, teens who struggle by providing them with the tools necessary to move forward mindfully with their lives and the Veterans Yoga Project.
