Hello, my name is John Mory, I am a retired Army veteran. I served as a Special Forces Medic for most of his career deploying to Afghanistan, Iraq and other numerous locations throughout Asia and the Middle East. After retiring from the military, I found myself not being able to adjust to the 9-5 office job and started working as a fire fighter/paramedic and have been doing that since 2013.
I found yoga while searching for an alternative to medications for anxiety, depression, and hypervigilance. Yoga and meditation made such a profound difference in regulating my nervous system and managing my PTSD symptoms that I became a yoga teacher myself with the intension of teaching and passing this knowledge onto fellow veterans.
As I finished my 200hr teacher training, I found Veterans Yoga Project and thought it would be a perfect fit for my newfound purpose, getting veterans and first responders on the mat. I have been with VYP since fall of 2018. Addition to teaching in person and online classes, I am the Virginia Regional Director and a facilitator for the Mindful Resilience Compassion Fatigue course.
I am currently pursuing a BS in Psychology with hopes to get a masters in either Social work or counseling and continue to work with fellow veterans and first responders.
