Timothy J. Avery, PsyD, RYT, has been VYP Director of Program Evaluation since 2017. In this role he supports measurement of the impact of classes and courses offered by VYP instructors. Multiple hospitals have leveraged his expertise to improve their program implementation and evaluation efforts. He also co-leads the Mindful Resilience for Yoga Training, and leads ad hoc workshops, trainings, and presentations to various audiences. He earned a doctorate in clinical psychology from the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium, Palo Alto University. He subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship with emphases of psychotherapy and complementary and integrative health interventions for trauma and comorbid conditions at the War Related Illness and Injury Study Center (Bayley Lab), VA Palo Alto Health Care System, and Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Stanford University School of Medicine.

After earning his 200-hour yoga teacher certification at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, he taught yoga at the VA where he customized a yoga series as part of a comprehensive stroke rehabilitation program and initiated multiple yoga classes for veterans experiencing substance use disorders.

He is a U.S. Navy (enlisted and officer) veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy.
