Marold G. Peterson

PFC Marold G. Peterson left behind two little boys when he went to war.

While fighting in Battle of the Bulge, he was captured and taken to a concentration camp. The conditions were horrendous. During one of the “death marches” while being moved from one camp to another, PFC Peterson and one of his buddies pulled off a daring escape into the woods; however, in an attempt to cross the road, the two soldiers encountered a group of Hitler youth. One of them pulled a gun, put it to PFC Peterson’s head, and pulled the trigger. Both murdered soldiers were left in the road. An American squad later came across the bodies and took them with them for proper burial. The very next day…. the concentration camp was liberated.

In honour of his service, his bravery, and his ultimate sacrifice, I pay tribute to PFC Marold G. Peterson. He was my grandfather!
